Propecia Levering. Bernstein Liebhard LLP Provides Resources For Concerned Propecia/Proscar Users
New York, NY (PRWEB) August 17, 2011
Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a New York law firm nationally recognized for its consumer protection and mass tort practices, announces the addition of several new content pages on its website, which are dedicated to informing consumers about the risk of male breast cancer and other serious side effects associated with Propecia and Proscar. Both Propecia and Proscar are manufactured and sold by Merck, and use finasteride as an active ingredient. Although both drugs contain finasteride, Propecia is used to treat male-pattern hair loss, while Proscar is prescribed to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlargement of the prostate). Proscar was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1992 and is available in 5 mg doses; Propecia is a 1 mg dose version of Proscar.
Health Canada Issues New Warning Labels for Propecia and Proscar
In response to an August 4, 2011 warning by Health Canada* regarding the potential link between drugs containing finasteride to male breast cancer, Bernstein Liebhard LLP is investigating drugs that contain the potentially cancerous ingredient and added new content to its website to inform consumers about the potential link between finasteride and breast cancer. Health Canada required the new label warnings for both Propecia and Proscar after receiving reports that males taking the finasteride containing drugs developed breast cancer. In addition to changing the drugs labeling, Canadian health officials recommended that patients taking Propecia or Proscar report changes such as breast enlargement, tenderness, lumps, pain or nipple discharge to their doctors. This latest warning comes on the heels of a Drug Safety Communication Publication** issued by the FDA in June, which linked Proscar to high-grade prostate cancer.
Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a staunch advocator for those injured by dangerous drugs and defective medical devices, has provided a wealth of consumer information on its website, http://www.consumerinjurylawyers.com.
